About The Dead Reckoning Society
What is The Dead Reckoning Society?

In the fewest words, we’re a non-profit flying and time-building social club.

The Dead Reckoning Society is an exclusive fellowship of aviators and travelers bound by a shared love of flight and aviation-themed camaraderie. We blend a traditional flying club with the festive presence of a community and social club.

Our members enjoy access to aircraft, curated flying adventures, private events, and good company. From ceremonial gatherings and spirited hangar talks to unforgettable journeys in the air, the Society is both a tribute to aviation’s rich history and a launchpad for new adventures. The Society remains committed to meeting the IRS requirements for a 501(c)7 non-profit social club.

The Dead Reckoning Society’s hangar remains tucked away in an undisclosed location on the Meadow Lake Airport (KFLY), a small airfield near the base of the majestic Rocky Mountains. Access to Society Hangars remains appointment-only.

Yes. Only dues-paying members who are already-certificated pilots qualified to fly The Society’s aircraft may do so. For purposes of protecting our collective interests, an insurance-named pilot or a pilot who meets the open pilot warranty must be seated at the controls of each aircraft at all times during operation. No extra fee is levied beyond the normal operating rate for use of the aircraft with an MEI-rated safety pilot on board. All dues-paying members have access to the aircraft, but must agree to follow the operating rules—which include a stipulation that you must be appropriately rated to fly the aircraft.

The Dead Reckoning Society hosts a wide variety of events throughout the year, including formal and informal hangar parties, flying events, fly-ins and more. Only members of The Society may view the event calendar. All events are invitation-only and remain open only to Members and their guests.

The Dead Reckoning Society has partnered with The Flight School at Meadow Lake to provide housing and accommodations nearby for a minimal price. From $200/week/bed, dorm-like accommodations are available to those Members who wish to visit The Society’s hangars and participate in flight activities during their vist.

Our collective enjoyment of experimental aircraft for our own personal use relies upon our status as a nonprofit organization. Experimental aircraft may only be cost-effectively shared with others if the aircraft is not operated for profit.

Flying clubs with the sole purpose of providing aircraft rental to its members may not meet the IRS’ rules regarding 501(c)7 social club nonprofit status, but The Dead Reckoning Society is a social club first.  So yes, your parents were right: you need to be a little more social.
